How to style an oversized hoodie without looking sloppy-628

Ah… the hoodie, endless comfort but very much in the danger zone of looking like a true slacker, so how to style an oversized hoodie without looking sloppy? I’ve actually found a few ways of pulling the hoodie off without looking like I didn’t have any of my own clothes left at my boyfriend's place (even if that’s true), or looking like I truly don't care how I look that day (even if that's true).

How To style an oversized Hoodie Without Looking Sloppy?

1. Go for Lighter Shades

Subdued and soft shades will freshen up anything that looks a little too chill. There something about camel, mocha, coffee and any other shade of beige that makes clothing look chic and expensive (check out our blog on beige outfits). A pastel palette adds a feminine touch and lightens the whole thing. If you really want to do it right, pair your new beige or pastel sweater with something light under like white jeans or cream-colored pair of elegant trousers. Throw over a camel coat and you’ve really nailed the casual but oh-so-chic look. Oh, and have a look at those soft cashmere or wool knitted hoodies for even more class.

2. Wear it under a blazer

Tomboy meets a grown man meets fashion starlet with this simple styling trick. Throwing a blazer over your jumper instantly dresses it up and gives it a nonchalant yet trendy feel. It’s even better if you have a full-on suit to match the blazer with your pants, or just wear some workwear pants to make it look suit-like.

3. Try Out a Cropped, oversized Hoodie

Here’s a little hack for ya, if it looks too baggy just crop it! But before you start slicing away all the midriffs of your baggy sweaters, have a look at the cropped hoodies you can shop here. I love a cropped hoodie over high waist jeans or for more of an unexpected look a pair of straight office-ready trousers ( you know the ones).

4. Pair them with knee-high boots

Ok if you ever want to look like Ariana Grande then this is your chance. Style an oversized hoodie with a pair of knee-high boots and you’re pretty much done. Don’t you just love it when getting dressed is this easy? Many will agree with me that wearing men’s clothing can be very sexy in a Laissez-faire or power-move way (baggy jeans, classic white shirts, power suit, etc.). A hoodie, however, doesn’t exactly ooze seduction (although, whatever floats your boat) but paired some knee-high boots you’ve solved that problem. I’d go for boots rather than stilettos and shorts for example as that’s a little too on the nose.

5. Give in To The Baggyness

If you’re going tomboy, might as well go full-on. Style your oversized hoodie with a pair of wide-leg cargo pants, jeans or wool suit trousers. To avoid looking like a complete sloppy-joe (can’t believe I waited this long to say that) go for a hoodie that is semi-baggy so doesn’t create excess fabric around the waist. This will make the outfit look more polished. Throw sophisticated Menswear-style loafers or some sophisticated height with a pair of ankle boots.

How to style an oversized hoodie without looking sloppy? It's all in the styling. Go for a tomboy look with baggy trousers or try out something a little more risque with knee-high boots and no trousers... If you're really running out of time or inspiration, it's never a bad idea to pair your hoodie with a pair of sleek leggings and sneakers. It's only sloppy if you're sloppy, at the end of the day.
